In the event of an incident, a centralized security command center can instantly send text and email messages to students and faculty, letting them know where and what is happening. Parents are immediately notified via text or email with a summary of preceding events and instructions on further actions to take. Campus police and first responders are GPS-tracked on a web-based campus map, allowing the command center complete visual control to maximize efficiency and timeliness.
First responders to the incident with receive real-time updates via text messages in order to quickly and safely arrive to manage the scene. Local responders, whose phones are not on the GPS-tracked grid, can pick up a Sprint Go-Phone located at the security command center. The Go-Phones allow officers to receive the same real-time updates as the campus police while also letting the command center track where all mobile forces are located. This maximizes efficiency and response times, while organizing forces in the effective target areas. If a student wants to be tracked for any reason, the TrackMe feature, a Java application run directly on the mobile phone, can be initiated to allow campus police to track the student. While the application is running, the student will receive text messages every 10 minutes asking if they still want to be tracked. In the event of imminent danger, a SOS button, a shortcut button on the exterior of the phone, can be pushed to activate campus police forces. The closest police officer will instantly receive a text message with the student’s name, phone number and location. SOS-EMERGENCY BUTTON If at any time a student feels threatened, the SOS-button can be pushed to activate campus police forces. The Java application does not need to be running. This button can also be pushed in the event of a campus-wide incident, not only giving the command center instant access to the exact location of the student, but also shortening the time of a police response.
